Mexican travel startup LastRoom announced the launch of the first Free WiFi guarantee in more than 400,000 hotel partners worldwide. Just two months after their debut as a B2B travel solution for SMBs during the TC Disrupt San Francisco, the team leaded by Josue Gio, Mexican entrepreneur and Angel Investor, takes quite seriously the commitment of improving the life of millions of business travelers around the world, since there haven’t been similar initiatives from other business travel operators or agencies so far.
“As a business traveler myself I perfectly understand the frustration of those travelers who finally arrive at the hotel after an exhausting journey and find that the wi/fi connection is not included in their rate, being forced to pay a generous extra” explains on Medium Angela Cois, Cofounder and COO, sharing a detailed story about the decision to offer this unique guarantee to all their users. “We strongly believe that a speed wi-fi connection is not an amenity but a basic need for frequent business travelers, who have to move around all the time and don’t do it for fun or leisure”.
The guarantee of free wifi connection apply to more than 400,000 hotels available on LastRoom’s travel management platform and any verified extra charge will be reimbursed to the users in the following hours. Moreover, the company announces that they’ve also implemented some significative changes in its search algorithm for hotels, giving more visibility to those accommodations that include the wifi service in their rates. This is a quite strong position against those hotel brands that sell themselves to the business segment, but lack of a basic free internet service to help their guests feel like in their own houses or offices, and the buzz around the Marriott case covered by the most important travel media in the last few months evidences clearly the relevance of the issue.
LastRoom shared a few months ago some lessons learned in the hard way during the first two years of experience running a travel startup from Mexico and pivoting from a mobile app for same-day hotel booking to a travel management solution for small and medium size enterprises. They already spoke about their commitment of improving the lives and experience of the business travelers worldwide with their technology solutions and this guarantee it’s an important step forward on the path of being a responsible company commit with their target market, rather than a travel SaaS like many others.
